What’s coming up for our families

Picnics, parent nights, playgroups and open houses. Every event below is free unless we note otherwise, and children are welcome at anything marked family. Find one that fits your week and save your spot.

Need childcare, an interpreter, or another accommodation to attend? Just tell us when you register, or call the office at (650) 555‑0134. We will make it work.

Fall Family Welcome Picnic

• Saturday, September 12 · 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• Belmont Center back yard · 1420 Ralston Ave.
• All ages, all families · siblings and grandparents welcome

Our biggest gathering of the year. Meet your child’s teachers, find the other families in your classroom, and let the kids run. We provide the main dish, drinks and a shaded seating area. Bring a side or dessert to share if you can, and a blanket to sit on. There will be a bubble station, a chalk wall, and a table where you can sign up for the volunteer opportunities you actually have time for.

Parent Night: Big Feelings, Small People

• Thursday, September 24 · 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
• Community Room, or join by video
• Parents and caregivers · childcare provided on site

Tantrums, biting, the 5 p.m. meltdown. Our education coaches walk through what is typical at each age and share a few phrases that actually help in the moment. Bring your hardest situation, we save the last half hour for questions.

Infant & Toddler Playgroup Drop‑In

• Tuesdays, October 6 and 20 · 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
• Infant room, San Carlos site
• Birth to 3 years with a grown‑up

An open hour of soft blocks, sensory bins and songs, with a teacher on hand for the questions that come up at this age. Come for ten minutes or the whole hour. Nursing and bottle‑feeding space is available.

Parent learning

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

• Wednesday, October 7 · 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
• Belmont Center, Community Room
• Families with a child starting TK or K in fall 2027

What the transition really looks like, from registration deadlines to the skills that matter most on day one. A kindergarten teacher from the district joins us to answer questions, and you leave with a one‑page checklist and a calendar of local district enrollment dates.

Trunk or Treat in the Parking Lot

• Friday, October 30 · 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Staff parking lot, Belmont Center
• All ages · costumes optional, no scary masks please

Decorated car trunks, a hay bale photo spot, and a slow loop that works for toddlers who need to hold your hand the whole way. There is a no‑candy trunk with stickers and small toys for families avoiding sweets or allergens.

Family Literacy Night & Book Swap

• Thursday, November 5 · 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
• Preschool wing, San Carlos site
• All ages · bilingual read‑alouds in English and Spanish

Pajamas encouraged. Teachers read in both languages, then every child picks a free book to take home. Bring gently used books your family has outgrown if you have them, but come either way, we always have plenty.

Open House & Classroom Tours

• Saturday, November 14 · 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
• Both sites open · start at whichever is closer
• New and returning families · children welcome

Walk the classrooms, meet teachers, and get straight answers about openings, tuition assistance and our subsidized program eligibility. Staff will be at a help table to start an application with you on the spot if you want to.

Parent Advisory Committee Meeting

• Any enrolled family · you do not need to be a member

One hour, a real agenda, and it ends on time. This month: the annual family survey results, the spring calendar, and how we are spending the family engagement budget. Your input here shapes what shows up on this page next year.

Volunteering

Harvest Potluck & Food Drive

• Friday, November 20 · 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
• Multipurpose room, Belmont Center
• All families · bring a dish if you can, come hungry either way

A shared meal before the holiday break, with a table where families can write what they are grateful for this year. We collect shelf‑stable food for the Second Harvest pantry, and any family who needs a box can take one home, no questions asked.

How registration works

No event on this page costs anything to attend. If we ever add a paid event, the price will be listed right on the card.

Bring the whole family

Siblings, grandparents and caregivers are welcome at anything tagged Family & fun. Parent learning nights offer free childcare on site when you register ahead.

Plans change, that’s okay

Can’t make it after you signed up? A quick note to the office frees your spot for another family. No penalty, ever.
