CLASSROOM NEWS Room C ●We will learn Spanish vocabulary related to Food and Holidays and will begin to practice a song for our Winter event in December. Room D ●We will play various group games involving acting and charades to develop our imaginations and embrace our dramatic side. We will also make thankfulness crafts with students not attending the Spanish Club. Room 4 ●Interact Club had a meeting 10-23 and discussed the Annual Toy Drive. We are still adding members to Interact Club from our site. Room 4 has almost ten students in the Spanish Club. Teacher Dany will join other teachers in the Juegos y Deportes Club for students ready to move. Teacher Daniel is planning STEM projects for the older group, including a Spaghetti Bridge Challenge and Craft Stick Building Room 5 ●We will begin the month with the first Spanish Club Fiesta of the year. The party is set for November 1st and the theme will be Dia De Los Muertos. Spanish Club continues to focus on themes of food, family, tradition, and holidays. Teacher Luis, our newest Footsteps @ Barrett Teacher, joins Room 5. Saul, Luis, Jenny, and Dany will begin Juegos y Deportes Club after Homework on Tuesday and Thursday.
HOMEWORK CLUB ●5 New Chromebooks have been purchased for the children to use at homework time ●Library Books - Teachers Steve and Daniel have started the Library of rotating books. October books themes were Halloween, The Aztec/Inca/Maya, and Spanish language picture books.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS Celebration Friday, Nov 1 The Spanish Club will host Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a special fiesta snack.

RECOLOGY ZERO WASTE PRESENTATION During the Conference week, a former Footsteps student, who now works at Recology in the Zero Waste Department, will present to the children ways to reduce, reuse and recycle items and how to work towards becoming a zero waste advocate within our community.
FOOTSTEPS INTERACT CLUB (5TH-8TH GRADE) Organizing a Toy Drive for the CALTRAIN Holiday Train 2019 We are asking for donations of New unwrapped toys and books for infant-teenagers to be donated by Wed, Dec 4. The Interact Club members will go the Holiday Train celebration on Sunday, Dec 8 at the Downtown San Mateo train station.
NEW STAFF MEMBER We welcome our newest Footsteps staff member, Luis, Assistant Teacher to our Footsteps Family. He will work as a Float Teacher between Room D & 5.
STAFF ACHIEVEMENT Four Footsteps Directors participated in a 3-day Trainer of the Trainer event. The group will work towards becoming certified CalSAC Trainers, part of state-wide group of trainers, funded through the California Department of Education. Footsteps is part of a Mental Health Wellness Collaborative, funded by the Sand Hill Foundation, and led by the California School Age Consortium (CalSAC). The group will train out of school time staff throughout California with a focus on the Mental Health Wellness of children and youth.
